The Museum has been established in the year 1964 with two pairs of empty domes (14th -15th C.A).  Later in the year 1997 a new Gallery hall was established with Office.  The Museum  has three Galleries with Garden. Sculptures are displayed  around two domes and in the Garden also.

Importance

The Museum is devoted to the regional History covering the Cultural, Sociological and Historical aspects of Kalaburagi District. The valuable specimens of Buddhist Site of Sannathi and many other Antiquities have been displayed, which helps to educate the people.

Collections

 

 

Pre-historic to Early historic:

 

The Neolithic tools, Weapons, Potsherds, Terracotta beads, Shell Bangle pieces, Neolithic hand axes, Bead necklaces. Arrows and Pottery pieces collected from Sannathi and Maski are exhibited in the Museum. Replicas of Harappan culture and murals are also  displayed here.

 

Paintings:

 

Total 26 Modern painting are displayed in the Museum.  

Sculptures:

 

Stone Sculptures ranging from 1-2nd Century of Sannati stupa and excavated remains and some sculptures are from 11th to 18th century have been exhibited in the Galleries, outside the Museum and in the Garden also. They are: Goddess Durga, Natys Shiva, Jalashayana Vishnu, Uma-Maheshwara, Shiva-Parwathi, Nandi, Shivalinga,  Bhairava, Ganesha, a frieze of Animals, Adinatha, Parshwanatha, Nishidhi Stones, Jaina figures, Vishnu, Male torso, Naga-Nagini Stones, Mahasati stone, Hero Stones, Kubera, Usha, Ambika, Saraswati, Dwarapalaka, temple pillars, Cannon Stone balls  and also  Kannada and Devanagari script inscriptions also exhibited here.  These sculptures are shifted from Sedam, Harsur, Medak, Malkhed, Chittapur and nearby villages and the region of Gulbarga district.  

 

Cannons:

 

18th Century Cannons are displayed in the Gallery No.1 and outside entrance of the gallery which were shifted from Dandoti and Malkhed.

 

Arms & Armours:

 

18th Century Swords, Draggers, 17th century Lock of Basavakalyan has displayed in the Museum.  

 

Manuscripts:

 

Palm leaf Manuscripts and a copy of Shahnama of Firdosi has displayed in the Museum

 

Miscellaneous Objects:

 

A Chair and Vessels used by British Officer Philip Meadous Tailor are displayed and 20th century wooden palanken, Cupboard and 18th century utensils are also displayed.
