History/Background

 

Basavakalyana has a rich histoy of its own. Basavakalyana’s land Basavadi Sharanas. In ancient texts Basavakalyana was ruled by Rastrakuta, Kalayanachalukya, Kalachuri, Kakathiya, Baridshahi, basavakayana Nawab

The museum is devoted to the regional history covering the cultural, sociological and historical aspects of Basavakalyana   It is serving the most useful purpose of educating the people.

Collections

Pre-historic to Early historic:

 

The Archeological Objects like Neolithictools, Pottari,Beeds are displayed in the gallery.

Coins:

 

Museum has total 80 coins collection. Vijayanagar, Mysuru Odayas , British (gold- 2, silver-1,copper-10, nickel-5) These coins show the currency system in India and show how artistically they are manufactured.

 

Paintings:

 

The paintings belongings to artists from Bidar District area are displayed in the contemporary Paintings Gallery. The paintings like oil, Water,  Pencil sketch, Crayon, Sketch pen, Collography,  Mixed media,  Etching and Poster water colour.

Sculptures:

 

The Museum has a rare collection of sculptures collected from various part of Bidar District have been displayed here belonging to the period of the 10th to 17th CE. The sculptures of Veerabhadra, Uma-Maheswara, Mahishasuramardini, Kubera, Garuda, Surya, Vishnu,  Lakhmi-Narayana, Shiva, Bhairava, etc. all belongs to Hoysala to Vijayanagara period.  

 

Jainism is represented by sculptures of Tirthankaras like Adinatha, Parswanatha and Mahaveera.  

 

The Worship of goddess (Adishakthi) in around Hassan is clearly known from the numerous Devi sculptures like, Mahishasuramardhini and which have been collected in this area   and displayed in the gallery.

 

Inscriptions:

 

Number of inscriptions displayed in this museum. These are Kannada, Persian Language belonging to the period 12 to 16 Century A.D.
