Govt Museum Athani is Located in Bijapur road near Siddeswara Tempal in Athani.  It was established at the instance of Smt Lilavati R Prasad the than Kannada and Culture Minister of Karnataka Govt. Presently around 68 objects are Collaction in this Museum. To collect and Exhibit the Aricles of Kalyani Chalukyas, Sculptures, inscriptions,Hero stones, Objects.

Importance

Athani is one of the largest and largest taluk centers in Belgaum district, about 155 km northeast of Belgaum district. It is bordered by Jatts and Sangli of Maharashtra, Vijayapura and Bagalkot districts of Karnataka. Krishna River is the lifeblood of Athani Taluk. The existence of human activity in this part of the Stone Age in the role of the river Krishna is evident from the artefacts found in this area. The museum houses a collection of sculptures from around the Athani Taluk. There are numerous religious and mundane sculptures and inscriptions from the Kalyani Chalukyas  to the Vijayanagara and also modern(12th to 19th  century)   period .

 

Collections

historical relics:

 

The museum houses a collection of Inscriptions and sculptures of the region from around the Athani Taluk. Arms in 18 th Century AD like Sword, Axe etc.

 

Sculptures:

 

There are numerous Stone Sculpture of different styles and kinds, religious and mundane and inscriptions of historical impotance, datable from kalyani Chalukyan (circa 12th century AD) to the post – Vijayanagara (1561 and after). Some of the most noteworthy sculptures are Uma maheshwara, dancing figures of superb workmanship, beauty and grace. Ganesha, Shivalinga, Bhairava, Durga, Musicion, Kala Bhairava, Vishnu Naga- Nagini Stones, Surya, Nandi Jaina  thirtankara, serene and of excellent  workmanship  Hero Stones and Mahasati Stones, Kannada Inscriptions, Stone Pillers, Architectural Lion etc..
