History/Background

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This building is popularly known Jahagirdar Banglow. It served  as  the residence of Diwan Poornaiah under the Krishnaraja Wodeyar III of Mysore .  This is an Heritage Building about 200 years old. It consists of six Galleries of medium size.

This building ownership is of Smt.Sukanya Poornaiah who is close related to Diwan Poornaiah’s generation.

The  Department has taken  this building on lease for a period of 33 years from march 2014 .

Collections

Paintings: Karnataka had developed its own school of Art.  Painting is one of its forms and an interesting section of the Museum. 

paintings of renowned  artists. The art works consists of Oil paintings, Water paintings, Photographs, Paintings on Canvas etc.,

 

The Art works (paintings) depict different varieties ranging from Royal Dynasty of Mysore, The paintings on ordinary Dashavatara paintings. Surpur and  Tanjavur style  Paintings.

 

Photographs:Majorly Dasara procession photographs and Mysore Wodeyars administrative records are  displayed

 

Panels:Diwan Poornaiah’s life and achievement panels are displayed.

 

Sculptures:

 

Stone Sculptures ranging from 12th to 17th century have been exhibited in the halls of the Museum. are: Lord Ganesh, Parshwanatha, Herostone, Durga, Dwarapalak  and an inscription of 13th century also exhibited here.  These sculptures are shifted from Malavalli, Maddur (Yalandur Taluk)

Overall, the experience for the visit to the museum will linger on in the memory of each visitor
